Coal Burning

Coal Burning is a leading cause of smog, acid rain, global warming, and air toxics.

Chemical Formula:                                            Word Formula:
Cx + O2 --> H2O +CO2                                       coal + oxygen --> water + carbon dioxide

Benefits:
  • Easily combustible, and produces high energy upon combustion helping in locomotion and in the generation of electricity and various other forms of energy
  • Widely and easily distributed all over the world
  • Comparatively inexpensive due to large reserves and easy accessibility
  • Good availability
Negative Effects:
  • Causes premature death in people with heart and lung disease, accounting for more deaths in the U.S. each year than either drunk driving or homicide (23,600)
  • Triggers thousands of heart attacks each year
  • Causes changes in heart rate variability and irregular heartbeat
  • Associated with the development of chronic respiratory disease in children
  • Causes changes in heart rate variability and irregular heartbeat

What You Can Do:
You can make the choice like many others to "go green", in doing so you will help reduce the amount of coal being burned, contribute less to global warming, and it will lower your risk of heart failure.  Many people have already made this important decision.  For more information on going green go to http://ideas.4brad.com/stop-burning-coal
